On Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, the College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science hosted the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Illinois-Indiana Section Conference. There were 91 participants in the conference, representing 16 universities from across the region.
Forty-two papers were presented. The conference Outstanding Paper was awarded to “Sustainable Energy Sources and Systems: Course Description and Project, ” by Dr. Donald Mueller, from IPFW’s Department of Engineering.
The conference also gave students the opportunity to exhibit their outstanding work. Eighteen posters were presented with the top award going to “Thieme Drive Floodwall System Design, ” presented by Jamie Coffman, Emily Gross, Amadou Sidibe and Deborah Uwamahoro from IPFW. Their advisors are Dr. Reza Hedayat and Dr. Suleiman Ashur from IPFW’s Department of Engineering.
Other highlights of the conference included the Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Eric Jolly, president of the Science Museum of Minnesota. He spoke on the importance of science, technology, engineering and math education. Conference attendees also had the opportunity to attend the 12th Annual Opportunity Banquet and Career Fair and hear retired NASA astronaut Robert Lee “Hoot” Gibson speak.

Thanks to a significant software donation from Operation Technology, Inc., ETAP software has been installed for use in CEIT labs. Dr. Omonowo(David) Momoh was instrumental in securing the donation that will give students hands-on experience with leading software in the power industry.
