Welcome to the Louisiana Tech University
Department of Journalism

"A unique area of excellence"

Louisiana Tech's journalism department has been designated by the university and the state Board of Regents as "a unique area of excellence in the creative and performing arts." That top-notch label spotlights the department in combination with the School of Art and the creative writing program in the School of Literature and Language. This area of excellence is one of only five programs of study so identified at Louisiana Tech.

What triggered the awarding of such a designation? Here are just a few reasons:

• For decades, Tech journalism graduates have proved themselves in the nation's workforce. The latest evidence of this is Tech journalism alumnus Stan Tiner, editor of the Biloxi Sun Herald, which won a 2006 Pulitzer Prize. Tiner himself earned finalist honors for editorial writing.

Indeed, Tech journalism grads are in constant demand from prospective employers - from Louisiana to New York City. Tech journalism alums have landed positions on newspapers such as The Denver Post and on magazines such as Seventeen. Their articles have appeared in People magazine, National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times and many other publications.

Other Tech graduates are known for their work as public relations personnel for U.S. congressmen in Washington, D.C., and as reporters, anchor-persons or producers for TV news from Baton Rouge to Buffalo, New York. Others serve as news directors of radio stations or in the advertising field.

• The campus newspaper, The Tech Talk, has won the equivalent of a collegiate Pulitzer and continues to rack up first-place awards at the national, regional and state level.

What's more, our students frequently win major nationally competitive internships that place them in such media hotspots as New York City or Washington, D.C.

• Tech journalism students get practical, personalized treatment from faculty members who are still active, award-winning participants in the daily business of writing.

The federal processing center says that they have sent my Student Aid Report to Louisiana Tech’s Financial Aid Office but your office says you have not received it. What could be the problem?

Yours is a common problem which most likely occurs as a result of confusion between Louisiana Tech University and a local technical college known as Louisiana Technical College - Ruston. You should contact the federal processing center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) and verify that Louisiana Tech University, federal school code 002008 is listed on your application.
